Brendan Boyle: What is Called Conversation? Plato and Liberal Education

The UATX Speaker Series brings leading thinkers into weekly conversation with our community, offering students the opportunity to engage directly with ideas that enrich and extend their academic studies. Each talk is aligned with the themes students are exploring in the classroom, bridging the intellectual foundations of their coursework with real world questions and challenges.

Brendan Boyle
Brendan Boyle is the Associate Dean for Graduate Programs at St John's College, Annapolis, where he has been a Tutor since 2013. Before coming to St John's, he was assistant professor of Classics at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.

He has also taught at Bard Berlin and the University of Freiburg. He studied Classics at Princeton and the University of Chicago, where he wrote a dissertation on Aristotle. He hails from Chicago and now lives in Annapolis with his wife, Anne, and son, Francis.

He is an avid, if unaccomplished, runner and outdoorsman.
